Take a deep breath. Climb down off the ledge. Put away the knife. Cancel that life insurance policy you just bought. It’s ok. Everything is going to be alright. Now come sit down over here and let’s get you a blanket and a cookie.
Whether it’s a case of karma finally catching up to them, a voodoo spell that was broken or just the law of averages coming into play the Phillies pitched poorly and played worse. Nine walks and four errors led to eight Mets runs and an easy breezy 8-2 victory at Shea. It has been far too long since I was able to use the phrase, “easy breezy” to describe a Mets/Phillies game so let me say it again. |

Listen to former Mets relief pitcher Doug Sisk look back at his time in New York on this Wednesday’s Gotham Baseball Live. Although Doug didn’t play a large role in the 1986 championship, he came up as part of the young core in the early eighties. Some of the topics we will discuss are his preparation in the bullpen, handling adversity, and some of his fondest memories playing professional baseball. Doug also will address how the treatment by the fans impacted him professionally. Finally, he will give us a perspective on how the game has changed in terms of bullpen utilization as well as clubhouse camaraderie. To listen live at 6pm, chat, or download the replay click HERE

Those that listen to Gotham Baseball Live know my stance on the Phillies and their fans. I have little respect for the behavior of a fan base that uses sports as an outlet to drink excessively and provide an excuse for rude behavior. The team is made up of a couple of stars and some role players with an inferiority complex. That is until they play the New York Mets. Somehow since June of 2007 the Phillies have spooked the Mets and they can’t get over it. Just when you thought it was 2008, good old 2007 reared its ugly head all over again. |
