It has now been reported that Jorge Posada’s injury will not require major surgery, and he’ll likely get a chance to play again this season.

That being said, the Yankees may still need a strong presence from behind the plate until Posada is ready, and Jose Molina’s body can only hold up for 3-4 games per week.

The truly decent “in-house” options are scarce, so the Yankees may look to acquire a backup catcher via free agency or trade.

Jorge Posada is headed to the disabled list for the first time in his 14 year career, and the Yankees are facing what could be a very long season without him. Thankfully, Jose Molina is a very capable backup, but as shown in last week-his body can’t hold up for long periods of time.
