“Hey Tom, you know what Friday is?” “No Pop, what’s Friday?” “P’s and C’s” “The Mets open up Thursday.” “Who cares about the Mets?” My eighty seven year old Pop Pop, who is a St. Louis Cardinals fan and never lets me forget it. With the tri-state area blanketed under two inches of snow, those who detest the mess turn our gaze to the warmer tropics of Florida. Where, starting Thursday (or Friday) a sound will emit which will trumpet the arrival of spring. Like the robin singing, or the flowers blossoming, a baseball smacking a catcher’s mitt informs us that yes, these days are cold but spring is right around the corner. Of course you can also fulfill your lust filled passion for baseball by turning on C-SPAN and watching Roger Clemens throw away his career a la Marion Jones. I would wager there will be prisons lining up across the country begging for him to be placed at their correctional facility. Why? |
